The Captain

I am Jeff Brooks, the captain of Aspro. I started fishing when I was about 8 years old off the beaches on the north coast and around Botany Bay, with my father and grandfather. Later progressed to rock fishing for Drummer and Blackfish. When I reached my teens, I started spearfishing . When I was 15, I started competing in spearfishing competitions up and down the NSW coast – practically diving the whole NSW coast.

I started commercial Abalone diving in Tasmania in the early 1980s, diving all over Tasmania for 10 years. I then purchased a NSW Abalone licence and dived with that licence for a further 10 years. Meanwhile, I became interested in game fishing after many close encounters with Marlin and Tuna whilst diving.

I started game fishing in run-abouts, mainly targeting Tuna. In 1994, I purchased a 43 Mariner called ASPRO, which I chartered out of Botany Bay for 8 years. During this time, I caught many Marlin and Tuna, winning tournaments in NSW. In 2003 I purchased a 34 Blackwatch and moved to Batemans Bay, the south coast of NSW, where I now run my charters and work as the captain of my boat. In 2007 I purchased my latest boat a 40 Blackwatch, a very comfortable boat.

Fish in style on this beautiful 40′ Blackwatch. A near perfect blend of sea keeping ability, creature comforts and dedication to the task. Charter boat skippers, experienced game fisherman and marine journalists from all over the world agree that the Black Watch 40 is unsurpassed in it's category.

Aspro is currently equipped with custom built rods and Shimano Tiagra reels with line classes of 10kg, 15kg, 24kg, 37kg and 60kg. It's twin 450hp diesel engines will take us wherever we need to go, and with capacity for up to 6 anglers we can ensure there's enough room for everyone to enjoy the experience. Whether it be with family or friends, you can be sure of a great trip with Aspro Game Fishing.

The experience

Whether you do the half day or full day trip, we provide you with a top quality service, fishing gear, as well as an experienced deckhand to show you the ropes. The Captain will also be there to offer his expertise and make your trip one to remember.

Reef Fishing is a great way to get into game fishing. On a reef fishing trip we catch snapper, flathead and many other varieties of reef fish. This is a half day trip lasting around 6 hours. Morning tea will be provided for everyone onboard, along with refreshments throughout the experience.

Big game fishing is where it gets really exciting. We are an experienced game fishing charter operator, specialising in catching marlin and tuna all along the East coast of NSW. We go out for a full 10 hour day, travelling out towards the shelf about 25 kilometres where the bigger fish tend to run. Lunch will also be provided on a full day for all participants, plus refreshments throughout the trip.

Batemans Bay is fantastic for game fishing. The bottom structure with numerous canyons and sea mounts is the perfect environment for getting that big catch. The Striped Marlin fishing in the summer months is probably the best on the NSW coast.

Striped Marlin over 150kg are regularly encountered, as are record sized Blue Marlin and a few large Black Marlin from time to time. The largest I've personally caught weighed in at 430kg! The Yellowfin Tuna fishing is particularly good during the cooler months, we've encountered Yellowfin weighing in excess of 70kg.
